Course Summary:
This course is designed to create and sustain interest in and enjoyment of gemmology both for those students not studying beyond this stage and for those continuing their studies in gemmology and related fields. It aims also to broaden students' knowledge of gemmology and make a contribution towards life-long learning for students working in and around gemstone- and jewellery-related jobs. Students require no prior knowledge of gemmology to study this course.

To increase students' understanding of gems and their characteristics, and to encourage the presentation of information and ideas appropriate for different audiences and purposes, thereby advancing their career potential in the jewellery industry.

Course Summary:
Students possessing basic gemmology knowledge may build on their understanding of gems and their characteristics. They will also be introduced to a wider range of the gems and imitations encountered in the jewellery trade. Students will advance their career potential by learning more about the factors that define a gem's appearance and qualities while expanding their practical and observational skills under expert guidance. Efforts are also made to help students develop positive attitudes relevant to gemmology such as accuracy and precision, objectivity, integrity, enquiry, initiative and insight.
The Gem-A Gemmology Diploma is accredited at level 5 by the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) - the only gem course in the world so accredited.
